Andy Garvey mixes the first volume of NADA’s three-part mini-mix series entitled ‘Without Weapons’; taken from, and inspired by the imagery of, a chapter title from the 1998 work of British-Ghanaian writer, theorist and filmmaker Kodwo Eshun (1998, More Brilliant than the Sun: Adventures in Sonic Fiction).

Garvey’s mix is a cascading journey through an impressively broad spectrum of Australian electronica; from the atmospheric space music of ‘Mess’ by Fabrics (Sydney) and the ebullient tones of ‘Caju’ by Fia Fiell (Melbourne), to the abrasively sinister ‘Documenting Reality’ by Bead (Melbourne) and the inevitably destructive ‘Stryker Hydraulic Tension’ by GLM (Melbourne) – two tracks that fall unapologetically within the grittier and rawer realms of underground dance music. Garvey skilfully brings her mix to a close with a corrosive yet contemplative 2017 release of ‘Internal Rust’ by Bleekman (an alias of Rory McPike aka Rings Around Saturn (Melbourne)).
